A very busy 4th July! To Hear & Be Heard conference and a volunteer get-together

Last modified date

Ahona & Fazeela attended two events for us on 4th July.

First up was a youth conference at the Albert Halls in Bolton, organised by
Youth Focus North West who coordinate the Greater Manchester Youth Combined Authority We took part in workshops and were really impressed with Bolton Youth Cabinet’s presentation about their mental health project Be Kind to My Mind. We’re looking forward to seeing the new children’s charter and maybe helping with visits to local services.

Ahona says:

The GMYA conference had a really great atmosphere and you could tell all the people there genuinely wanted to hear young people’s opinions. Not only did we get free youth voice badges, but heard some inspirational young people talk themselves.

Then we dashed back to Sale for a get-together of Healthwatch Trafford volunteers. Our volunteer coordinator Kaf had organised for us all to go on a walk, led by Dave of Trafford Walk for Health. Dave is a volunteer himself and organises loads of walks all over Trafford – anyone can join in, just look at the timetable on his website.

Ahona says:

The volunteer get-together was an absolute treat! The walk was beautiful (plus I think I got a bit of a tan) and everyone was really lovely to chat to and get to know. However, I think the cake had to be my favourite part of the day.
